Quick Fire With The Cast

We gave some of the cast from our new film "The Lady from the Sea" 60 seconds to answer a round of 6 simple questions, not much time to really think about their answers.

This Is What Some Of Them Had To Say

Kris Wolf: Playing Dr Wangal

1: Tell us why you love acting.

Each role is a different challenge. To me it's about connecting and collaborating with other people -in the crew and the cast, to create something special together.

2:  Why do you love the sea, or anything that scares you about it.

I respect the sea. I enjoy swimming in it, I hope it will spare me when next time I'm sailing though!

3: Tell us something no one else knows about you.

If there is anything I've never told anyone, not even to my best friend......I guess it's better to remain untold :)

4: Best achievement to date.

To oversee and overstep my younger me.

5: Tell us a joke.

Are you joking, I've been told the answers need to be short...

6: Describe yourself in 5 words

Well...I would say, friendly. (that was 5, wasn't it?)

Katrina Syran: Playing Ellida

1: Tell us why you love acting.

Acting has been a part of my life since I was 5 years old. It’s defiantly a calling, as they told us at Guildhall School Of Music & Drama, you are all sick.

2:  Why do you love the sea, or anything that scares you about it.

The sea feels infinite

3: Tell us something no one else knows about you.

I sing opera, I’ve performed  The Marriage Of Figaro.

4: Best achievement to date.

My play “Breaking The Silence”,written for Human Rights Watch and nominated best play at the summit; End Sexual Violence In Conflict, organised by Angelina Jolie and William Hague.

5: Tell us a joke.

An actor at a dinner party after performing, “But enough enough about me. Let’s talk about you. What do you think about me?”

6: Describe yourself in 5 words.

Happy, chilled, spontaneous,crazy,curly

Elliot Cable: Playing Lyngstrand

1: Tell us why you love acting.

There is absolutely no way to answer this without sounding pretentious, but acting for me is an amazing way of experiencing an unlimited number of stories, every single one different to my own. It’s a way of not only expressing myself but of exploring others and exploring the world through another lens. Equally it allows me to live out my craziest childhood fantasies whilst also putting me into places and experiences that I would have never dreamt of – be that good, bad or some combination of the two. Basically, it’s something different every day. It keeps me on my toes, and I can’t imagine myself doing anything else... Because I bloody love it.

2:  Why do you love the sea, or anything that scares you about it.

I’ve always weirdly loved boats; when I was a kid I used to force my mum and dad to take me on big ships and stuff like the Cutty Sark and HMS Belfast. I was also some crazy water baby who loved swimming so whenever I was on holiday – and even to this day – I would just throw myself straight into the waves! Although at the same time when you swim out too deep and feel the water below you get freezing cold... That’s when the sea starts to scare me. In a weird way I have a great deal of respect for the sea.

3: Tell us something no one else knows about you.

Let’s not go there...

4: Best achievement to date.

Having films I’ve been in premier at the Genesis Cinema, BFI Southbank & Curzon Soho!

5: Tell us a joke.

A man walks into a bar and says... “Ouch”.

6: Describe yourself in 5 words.

Confident, Motivated, Easy-Going (that counts as one right?), Funny (There I said it), Stubborn.

Ellen Brooke Williams: Playing Hilde

1: Tell us why you love acting.

For me personally, routine has always depressed me.  So the constant ever-changing pattern that pursuing acting has brought me over the years - despite the position I've been in so often of toeing the line of poverty, naturally  - has kept me going, kept me engaged with the world, and has kept me interested in everything outside of myself.  Acting enables me to constantly (when I'm lucky) live outside of myself and consider, discover, and learn about lives that aren't my own.  Acting keeps me and my own life mercurial.

(Also acting is the only thing I've ever 100% believed I was good at.  And no one has ever wavered me from that belief).

2: Why do you love the sea, or anything that scares you about it.

I grew up by the sea; I had no choice but to love it!  I love its ferocity, its unpredictability, its beauty, how it calms me and how whenever I'm near to it, I'm home.

Nothing scares me about it because I grew up with an innate respect for it - it can't harm me in any way whilst I respect that it is a force that I, nor anyone else, can reckon with.

3: Tell us something no one else knows about you.

In the last year I'd say something no one knows about me - up 'til now - would be that I've finally established, and now accepted, what has become my most uncomfortable fear.  Cryptic! I know!

4: Best achievement to date.

Honestly?  My best achievement to date would have to be - without trying to blow smoke - scoring a role in this film.  Within a year of moving to the UK and with no agent, against upwards of thousands and amongst around 50 shortlisted.  I'd say this is my zenith so far.  At least I'm (hopefully) still moving onwards and upwards!

5: Tell us a joke.

You tell me one!  Trust me, it would be funnier...

6: Describe yourself in 5 words.

Obnoxious.  (I try to pepper the bad with the good...and start with the self deprecating)

Self deprecating - Honest - unapologetically.

Just- fiesty!

Luca Molinari: Playing The Stranger

1: Tell us why you love acting.

I love to tell stories and being able to embody different personalities and characters and emphasise with them without judgment. I love to explore different cultures, accents, languages and gestures and to incorporate that into my acting work, depending of where my character is from.

2:  Why do you love the sea, or anything that scares you about it.

The sea is a place where you can always escape from reality, where you feel free, be calm, relax and get lost in your thoughts thats what I love about the Sea. It's unpredictability is what scares me a bit. Water is a very strong element that you should not underestimate.

3: Tell us something no one else knows about you.

I have very ugly feet :)

4: Best achievement to date.

Starring in a movie directed by Reggie Yates called "Road Kill". The movie was on Channel 4.

5: Tell us a joke.

Today at the bank, an old lady asked me to help check her balance. So I pushed her over. :P

6: Describe yourself in 5 words.

Self-disciplined, respectful, patient, calm, consistent.

Ashley Robson: Playing Arnholm

1: Tell us why you love acting.

I’ve been an avid film watcher all my life and acting allows me to be closer to my passion. I love the process an actor goes through in creating a character and I love the team ethos involved. Many creative people all working together in order to accomplish something great. I love the sense of unity and the collaboration with the director and my fellow acting colleagues.

2:  Why do you love the sea, or anything that.

scares you about it.

Im not scared of the sea, but neither do I love it. A bit like horses. The sea is so unpredictable and vast which concerns me to a degree. I think of it with trepidation maybe because some of my past experiences have caused a sense of distrust. Or maybe it was watching Jaws when I was a kid. Probably a bit of both. I love the beach though and being near the sea from a distance.

3: Tell us something no one else knows about you.

I don’t have secrets, I’m pretty transparent. I talk about things all the time with those closest to me. Okay, how about the fact I’ve jumped out of a perfectly good aeroplane at 14’000 feet on my own 12 times!

4: Best achievement to date.

I’m very proud to admit that being cast as Arnholm is one of my biggest achievements thus far. Away from film though, it would have to be that in my early 20s I travelled the entire circumference of planet Earth. I’ve been to every continent at least once (with the exception of Antarctica.)

5: Tell us a joke.

I’m useless at remembering jokes. Ummm... i have a good one that my niece told me recently but it has to be spoken and can’t be written. Sorry. Ummm.... okay, what’s brown and sticky? A stick. Told you I was rubbish.
